Hello! This is my latest and probably last build for this year. Its an SD Gunner Zaku from the Seed Destiny series. Did kit for the annual Mechapinoy SD Con compe which is held during the Christmas party of the group. About the build, just my usual style or preference which is additional of panel lines (head, feet & skirts), also added a few rivet holes. And some Kotobukiya MSG's and styrene strips just to add a little bit more details. All painted with Gaianotes paints and oils.

Only out of the box, actually its not yet 100% done, there are still some details that needs painting but I was forced to submit this for a local compe due to lack of time. Here's my 1/35th scale Stryker ATGM from Trumpeter. Its an OOTB build. Painted with Gaianotes lacquer paints and weathered using oils and acrylics. I really wanted to apply more weathering to it but since this is my first modern AFV, I decided to play it safe and just apply a subtle filter and dusting on the lower half of the vehicle. Pardon me if its not that historically correct specially with regards to the stowage/equipments, cant find a decent reference photo of the "loaded" vehicle. As usual more photos at the main site.

Kotobukiya Type38-1 Ryurai-Kai

Finished this kit 2 weeks ago. Its out of the box, I only changed the color of the cannons to dark gray to it just a bit of contrast from the mech. Slightly weathered as requested by the client. Did some dot filtering on the armor and drybrush to simulate scratches. Dusting on the feet and legs were achieved using powder pigments and oils. Custom "warning" decals were also applied.

Here's the final result after all the weathering applied. Since its a modern AFV, I tried to restrict myself from weathering it too much like my previous WWII armor kits. I didnt apply chippings, too much paint fading. All I did after the filter is a bit of dusting; but instead of using pigments like I used to, I resorted using acrylics (airbrushed). A thing I learned from western armor modelers. Just a final flat coat and its all done.

Here's a step by step process on how I usually paint armor kts. First is I apply a primer then paint some areas black usually the panels and edges (photo above).

Next is the application of base coat (which is dark green for this project). Then post-shaded to show shadows on some areas.

After that, I mix my base color usually with white (and yellow) and sprayed on the center of some panels as highlights. This also helps to blend the colors and add an extra depth to the kit.

A coat of gloss clear paint is applied followed by a dark brown (enamel) pin wash. Decals are also applied in this stage.

Optional: Application of filter, this time I only use what most armor modelers call "Dot Filtering". A filter is technically a complement, it also helps to break the monotony of single colored subjects.

Here's the results. Notice the discoloration of some panels.

Assembly done and ready for painting. The building went smooth, except for a PE part which I mishandled leaving me no choice but to use the plastic counterpart. Another thing I really like about this kit is that it comes with paper cutouts of ration boxes, really had fun making them.

Been waiting to get out of mecha and sci-fi builds. Good thing the 9th IPMS Philippines Nationals is coming up, letting me build another armor kit. This is my first time doing a modern AFV, Im used to doing WWII armors with heavy weathering. So this will be quite interesting; at least for me.

Brought this to work and started the assembly. No fitting issues so far and great details (which include PE parts) as expected from Trumpeter kits. Hopefully I can manage to finish this build in 2 weeks.

Painted using Gaianotes Paints. I also applied a subtle shading to give the kit some depth.

Top coated with a gloss finish, then wet decals were applied.

Almost done! Just a bit of drybrushing and touch-ups left to do.

Kotobukiya Type38-1 Ryurai-Kai WIP: Primed

Here's a small update for this build. Primed all the parts to check for some imperfections, unfortunately there are still a couple of seams and sanding marks which needs to filled and sanded again. After that, off to painting. I also plan to alter the scheme a bit but I still have to ask permission from the owner.

Oh! Remember what I said at the intro post of this build that there are only a few sealing to be done? Here's the photo of those parts.

Back with another build! Finally, a non-gundam but unfortunately another mecha, LOL. Starting to miss armor and aircraft kits. Well, Im just doing this for a friend and first time handling aFrame Arms kit from Kotobukiya. At first I was a bit hesitant due to my experience on their first batches of Armored Core kits which I didnt quite like due to the quality of plastic used. It was kindda brittle resulting to breaking or parts, especially the joints even during the dry fitting stage. But I take it all back, these new Koto kits can be very much compared to Bandai quality. The PS they used is similar and quite strong compared to their old kits I've done. Another thing that impressed me is the breakdown of parts, very detailed and only a few seams to tackle. Its like building a mini Master Grade or a Real Grade. Poseability wise (with the armor) is pretty decent. I think my only gripe about this kit is the internals which I find a bit flimsy, but I guess it will tighten after painting. Other than that, its a good kit to own and build, same good quality you can expect from Kotobukiya.

My latest build, a 1/100 Tieren Ground Type from the Gundam 00 series. Just an OOTB build. Painted with lacquer paints. Weathering (drybrush, pin wash, rust, chippings and filter) done with oil paints. Powdered pigments was also used for the dusting the feet and lover legs. The markings were masked then painted using lacquer. Very nice kit to own in my opinion, aside from the massive size, assembly is quite easy and minimal seam removal. Details are quite nice too especially when compared to the 1/144 counterpart.

Sangokuden Tyouhi Gundam

Hello! this is my Tyouhi Gundam from the Sangokuden series. Just a fun build and as usual OOTB. Im quite satisfied with the results, getting used to it again, building small SD's and masking which I believe needs some practice on my part. I used lacquer paints for my base and oils for the wash. Maybe next time I'll tackle a more challenging Sangokuden kit with much details on it.

Kind of a late post. Been a bit busy lately doing some other stuffs. Finished painting and masking of all the parts. Im currently under the weathering stage of the build (will post photos of that soon).

Here are all the masked parts. Cant bear not to put decals on it (due to the contest rules) so I decided just to paint all the markings.

Here's also a photo of the backskirt that shows a color variation or depth when a filter is applied. Note; only the right side of the skirt was filtered.

Its good to be back on my workbench after being busy for the last few months. This time Im gonna tackle a personal fave from the 00 series. This kit is massive in size and quite cheap (if you ask me). Also simple to build and not much of seam removal involved. For this build I plan to do it OOTB, with some minor changes on the color scheme, but will retain the official green color. I also plan to apply some weathering that I've learn from armor model kits.

Here's what I've done so far:

Painted the grays first that needs to be sandwiched between the green parts. Too lazy for pre-painting modifications.

"The IPMS Philippines Bert Anido National Scale Model Competition is the largest and most prestigious gathering of scale models and modelers in the region.

The Nationals is an annual, week-long event that has been held at SM Megamall in Madaluyong, Metro Manila since 2003; an event that draws much foot traffic and onlookers.

The Nationals are normally scheduled for early November in the build up to the Christmas season. Models are entered free of charge and are scrutinized by a panel of expert judges within their respective category. These categories are based on the scale, subject and modifications, if any."

MG RX-78 NT-1 Done

Late post, since my cam broke. This is my NT-1 build and entry to a local compe by Mechapinoy. The inspiration behind this build was both the RG line by Bandai and some garage resin kits. I wanted to detail it up but I also dont want to put too many add on parts/MSG's or PS sheets that can make the outcome very busy. Instead I resorted to armor cuts and addition of new panel lines. The stock head unit was also replaced with an MG RX-78 OYW version, I think it fits the theme well and it looks better. Ankle joints extended by 2.5mm to allow greater articulation for the feet and better stance. Paint scheme was based on the G3 Gundam. Some panels painted in gray to achieve the RG feel.

• The contest is open to all Gundam enthusiasts except employees and immediate family members of Bankee Trading Inc., International Toyworld Inc. and its advertising agency up to the second degree of affinity or consanguinity.

• The contest has three categories and will be classified accordingly:

1. Junior category – 8 to 14 years old. Interested participants may assemble and paint any Gundam Brave Battle Warriors model kit.

2. Open Category – 15 years old and above, Open to all amateur modelers. Interested participants may assemble and paint any 1/100 scale Gundam 00 model kit.

3. Special Category – 15 years old and above. Open to expert modelers, to include previous top 3 winners in the past Gundam contest and to all who wish to challenge them. Interested participants may assemble and paint any Gundam Brave Battle Warriors or Gundam 00 model kit item.

Note:

1. NO MODIFICATIONS ARE ALLOWED.

2. We will not accept entries that already joined in previous major or minor Gundam contests or competitions.

MG NT-1 Build Journal

Been quite busy lately and not be able to update on my project. Im currently building an MG NT-1 for Mechapinoy's In house compe (OMNI Mecha). The goal of this build is to simply detail up the kit and change the color scheme. I was also inspired by the Real Grade line. So here's a summary of what I've done so far;

Armor cutting and trimming

Addition of panel lines

Seamline removal by carving and using styrene sheets

For the color scheme I decided to go similar to the G3's scheme.

Raiden Armor Done

Here’s my contribution to the “Weathering VS Metallic” group build of Zero G. It’s a 1/35^th scale Raiden Armor from Bandai. Pretty much an old school kit, lots of seam lines but the details were quite good. I chose this kit mainly because of its scale; I really want and need to practice my weathering since I’m becoming an avid fan or armor kits. About the build, it was purely OOTB except for the additional rifle/weapon. Painted with a mixture of dark yellow and tan (Gunze Lacquer Paints). Same mix with my previous Panzerspahwagen build. For the highlights I just added white to the base color. For the weathering; at first I plan to do it simple and conservative, but I went overboard and decided to make it heavy for a change (not sure if I overdo it). Pin wash, Filter, rust were achieved using oil paints (burnt umber, burnt sienna, black, white and yellow ochre). I also used a Balkenkreuz emblem and some German decals since I’m going with the Afrika Korps scheme.

Academy 1/72 A-10A Thunderbolt

My first aircraft build and contribution to Mechapinoy's aircraft group build. This was a 1/72nd scale model kit from Academy and also a straight OOTB build. I encountered a couple of problems and fitting issues which was fixed by lots of trimmings and putty work. The hardest part for me was painting the canopy since all the details and edges were inside the canopy, I also kindda messed it up. After gluing it to the fuselage and removing the mask, I saw some dust accumulating and sticking inside the canopy (cannot remove it anymore since I used a clear epoxy as adhesive). At the end, it’s still very enjoyable, for me at least. Since this is another first for me and I've also learned a lot from my mistakes. This also broadens my interest in dealing and building other genres aside from mechas and armors.

1/35 Raiden Armor WIP: Weathering Part 2

I think this will be my last update for this build. I applied a second filter (white, still using oil paints thinned with turpentine). This is to tone everything down a bit and simulate watermarks on some areas. After curing this layer I will spray it with the final flat coat, then apply some pigments on the feet and lower legs for mud and dust effects.

1/35 Raiden Armor WIP: Weathering Part 1

Started weathering this kit. My style or preference usually begins with a pinwash using Tamiya Enamel (Dark Brown), this is to raise the details of the kit. This was followed by drybrushing to represent scratches which I stressed on the edges and moving parts I also din some paint chippings using a small piece of sponge. Gunze Lacquer (Dark Gray) was used for both drybrushing and chippings. After drying I sprayed a clear coat of semi gloss, just to protect the paint job and plastic for the next step.

After the semi gloss coat cured, I applied a filter which is a diluted mixture of Burnt Sienna. This is to simulate the discoloration of paintjob. It can also give more depth specially on monotonous subjects. I also placed "rust" on the edges and chipped areas by handbrushing Burnt Sienna + Burnt Umber + Black then blending them slowly until I get the result I wanted. I used oil paints by the way.

Here's a summary of what I've done so far; primed the kit using Mr. Surafacer 1000. Base coat was applied, just my own mix of Dark Yellow + Tan. Followed by some highlights, this was achieved by adding a few drops of White paint to the base paint mixture.

I started painting the figure which will be sandwiched inside the main body of the kit. The figure was hand brushed using Gunze Lacquer Paints and washed with Tamiya Enamels. The photo above shows the finished figure also applied with flat coat. You may also notice that I did not bother to remove the mold lines on the arms and legs & I only painted the upper half. This is because the figure will only be partially seen when the whole kit is done.

Academy 1/72 A-10A Thunderbolt: Gloss, Decals and Filter

Final update on my A10 Thunderbolt build, so far I've managed to apply a gloss coat and decals on the model. I also apply a filter on selected panels just to break the monotonous gray color as advised by my friend Wingnut of Plamo and IPMS Philippines (also a great aircraft modeler). Will just wait for it to dry, then the final flat coat will be applied and maybe take some decent photos of the kit.

Kit Description (from HLJ)

Originally released in 1998, this reissued snap-fit assembly kit of Raiden Armor from "Gasaraki" comes molded in color and will be fully articulated with polycap joints upon completion. Its canopy and cockpit hatches can open, and Raiden Armor can also be posed in a "seated" configuration for pilot boarding. Two in-scale, unpainted Yushiro Gowa figures (standing and sitting) are included, along with a sheet of stickers for adding details to your completed kit.

While waiting for my A10 Thunderbolt's paint job to cure, I decided to start assembling this kit. This build is for the "Weathering VS Metallic Group Build" of Zero G . Im part of the weathering team by the way. The kit has a fair amount of details, so no problem doing it OOTB which suits my personal preference. For the color scheme Im planning to do a desert scheme, maybe try to simulate the German Afrika Korps scheme since I think I still have some spare German decals which is perfect for this project.

Academy 1/72 A-10A Thunderbolt: Painted

Painted the whole kit and weapons. So far I like the results but I also think that the camo edges were too soft compared to the real thing. I also had a hard time fixing the canopy to the fuselage, the parts were seriously misaligned. I had to use a clear epoxy to fix it because of its strong bond. Next will be applying a pin wash and decals. Im still thinking if I should also apply filter. Need to research more on aircraft builds.

Just a short update; finally resolved the tail-grabbing issue. Many thanks to the guys at IPMS Philippines and Plamo for the inputs. By the way I used lead weights. real heavy and works perfectly. :D I also sealed the fuselage, expecting heavy putty work and sanding.

Academy 1/72 A-10A Thunderbolt: Balancing Issue

As expected, this guy was tail-heavy! I have to put so much metal stuffs I found that I cant fit it inside the cockpit and nose area of the kit anymore. Im thinking of using the Tamiya Multi Chasis Balance Weight as an alternative coz its smaller and easier to hide. But Im still asking the pros at Plamo and Mechapinoy, maybe they have a better suggestion.

Academy 1/72 A-10A Thunderbolt

This will be my first time building and painting a plane scale model, and its a part of the Mechapinoy 1/72 Aircraft group build. I choose the A-10A simply because its one of my fave birds of all time. I must admit that building this will not be a breeze since its my first time and I have to rely on different aircraft builds for reference. So wish me luck. :)

Here's a bit of history about the model (c/o Wikipedia)

The A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American single-seat, twin-engine, straight-wing jet aircraft developed by Fairchild-Republic in the early 1970s. The A-10 was designed for a United States Air Force requirement to provide close air support (CAS) for ground forces by attacking tanks, armored vehicles, and other ground targets with a limited air interdiction capability. It is the first U.S. Air Force aircraft designed exclusively for close air support.

The A-10 was designed around the GAU-8 Avenger, a heavy automatic cannon which forms the aircraft's primary armament. The aircraft's hull incorporates over 1,200 pounds (540 kg) of armor and was designed with survivability as a priority, with protective measures in place which enable the aircraft to continue flying even after taking significant damage.

The A-10's official name comes from the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt of World War II, a fighter that was particularly effective at close air support. The A-10 is more commonly known by its nickname "Warthog" or simply "Hog". As a secondary mission, it provides airborne forward air control, guiding other aircraft against ground targets. A-10s used primarily in this role are designated OA-10.

Now onto the build...

As most aircrafts modelers do, I painted the cockpit and insides of the fuselage, actually hand-brushed using Gunze lacquer paints. I also used oil paints to give it a general wash. Was kindda disappointed because the instrument panels were only water slide decals.

I also dry fitted the kit to study it further; I really dont want to mess up sealing and painting this kit. I also realized that it was not a good idea to get an Academy kit, especially for a first timer like me... yes, it was a really cheap kit but it also has a lot of flaws like huge gaps, fitting issues, etc. Looks like this one will need a ton of putty work and sanding. I should have gotten the Hasegawa or Revell instead, oh well. (LOL)

HGUC Hyaku Shiki Done

My last kit for 2010, a kitbash of the HGUC Hyaku Shiki and Zeta. Just like of my usual builds this guy was treated with additional panel lines, pla plates, etc as details. It was a nice fun build which kept me busy in between builds for the last quarter competitions locally.

HGUC RX-79[G] Ground Gundam Type

Finished this kit about a month ago for the IPMS Philippines Nationals. Its a purely OOTB build with a slightly weathered scheme. I kindda miss pre-shading mecha kits, and its perfect to practice weathering I've learned from armor building. Chippings and filter were achieved using oil paints (sorry, cant be seen clearly from the photo because of the camera's exposure), then I used acrylics and powders for the dusting on the feet and legs. I was also amazed on the tooling of this kit, very few seam lines to tackle and excellent fitting. Probably my favorite build this year.

Sangokuden Bacho Blue Done

At last after more than a year I was able to build another Sangokuden kit. I must admit I had difficulties with this kit specially with regards to masking and paint finish. Lots of bleeding and touch-ups were done not to mention there were also some orange peel on the finish. But despite of all the mishaps Im still glad that I was able to finish this and its another addition to my Sangokuden collection.

Been a while, been busy with the local modeling events here lately. Here's my 3rd attempt on armor modeling. Its a 1/35th scale Russian KV-1 "Ehkranami". Its a pretty straight forward OOTB build. I use Russian Green as my base paint, then toning it a bit with black and white/yellow for the post shade and highlights. Dry-brushed the kit with dark brown and dark gray to simulate scratches, sponge technique was used for the chippings. I also applied a dark brown pinwash and filter. For the mud effect I used Tamiya acrylics mixed with talc and fine sand (many thanks to Fritz for this recipe). Dust and Rust was achieved by using Tamiya weathering sets and oil paints.

Also kudos to Plamo for their tutorials and WIP's. Been a great help and excellent reference for this build.

At this point I've already applied the decals (also scratched them a bit to fit the weathered look). Also started with the initial rust color and a pin-wash to raise the details.

A darker color for the rust was applied.

Another layer of rust, this time using Tamiya Weathering Set. A dark brown and light gray filter was also applied.

Here's the turret, instead of drybrushing it with a lighter color, I used dark brown to simulate scratches and chi[[ings. I find this a bit more realistic than the circa way we all used to. Credits to the M Workshop for this technique.

Here's what I've been up to for a couple of weeks now. Back to armor modeling, also a break from mechs/Gundam kits. This one will be purely out of the box. Assembly and fitting is quite decent, except for warping on some parts (which can easily be fixed), maybe due to the temperature and storage. A great armor kit specially for those who are new to the genre like me.

Painted the tracks (plastic) black then highlighted it with reddish brown mix and drybrushed with light gray.

This is my latest build. Its a non-grade 1/100 scale Saviour Gundam. The whole build was pretty much straight forward. Modifications done were not that obvious unless you are familiar with the stock kit. I did some adjustments on the overall proportion of the kit to suit my preference such as extension of the lower torso, ankle joints and neck joint, lowering the leg-crotch joint, shaving the upper thighs (more room for articulation). Additional detailing like panel lines, pla-plates, etc. were also applied. For the scheme, I decided to go with the original colors.

Used a scrap part from an old kit and Kotobukiya square vents to detail up the shoulder armor. Also looks like it has an internal. I aslo placed some pla plates on the armor itself as additional layer.

There's a big seam line on the side of the torso, I carved it so it will look like a natural gap of the kit. This also allowed me to paint the neck and arm joints separately.

Did a dry fitting session to see how it looks after the extensions and mods. So far it looks fine to me, pretty much suits my preference. BTW I also extended the waist and front skirts. Applied pla-plates on the torso and skirt areas for additional detail and depth to the kit.

A small modification on the riffle, the OOTB is too long for me.

More panel lines. I also replaced the detail at the thighs that were erased during sanding with pla-plate.

- Made some cuts at the side of the armor to add more articulation on the shoulder joint.

- Cuts and details on the lower arms.

- Lowered and lengthen the thigh joints, again for added articulation.

Currently doing a fun build. Its a long planned and abandoned project of mine. As you can see the proportion of this kit in MS mode is a bit crappy (well for me at least). So I guess a bit of extensions are needed for it to fit my personal preference.

First, I did the simplest articulation mod I know by shaving the top-medial portion of the thighs so it can have a wider stance.

I also did some pre-painting mods on the legs, really not that necessary but I end up doing it since I want to change the color of some parts and Im kindda lazy to do masking work later.

I manage to finish this side project of mine. Even though its a bit cold and rainy these last few weeks. My main concern was the possibility of "frosting" due to the weather, but it all turned out pretty good. You can call it an OOTB finish, I just did a few panel lining and details to it.

My latest build. A 1/144 HG00 Throne Drei. I was able to finish it after two weeks of cramming to be able to join the Mechapinoy TBIB In-house Competition. Modifications done were extending the neck and waist joints. I also added panel lines and rivet holes as additional details. I also changed the color scheme a bit to give it a little flair.

Another pre-paint modification for the wings.

I also extended the upper body by 2mm, and the neck by 1mm.

Back with a new and rush project. Must be able to finish this build within a week for our local compe. So far I have no clear idea what to do with it, maybe I'll just detail it up a bit and adjust the proportion according to my preference like most of my builds.

To save time and avoid masking as much as possible I did some pre-painting modifications, which is pretty basic just by cutting some pegs here and there so I will be able to to slide the parts after painting.

I only changed a few things and added details here and there, which is not very obvious and just to be a little different compared to the stock or OOTB form. This build was actually inspired by Eday's Asshimar. I was impressed by the way he detailed and modified it.

Now working on a side project, since painting the Asshimar was delayed due to the power interruptions in our area a couple of days ago. Here are some of the preps Ive done.

Pre paint mods on the shoulders.

Carved the sides of the torso and made the seam lines look like a natural groove on the kit.

Also scribed panel lines on the thighs (also on the arms) so it will look uniform with the seam since Im not planning to seal it.

Made some simple cuts on the legs to avoid masking. Will just have to slide the gray part after painting.

Detailed the crotch portion using plates and scraps of wires, too bad it wont be that visible after painting and assembly. Will also put O-bolts later.

I also managed to modify the riffle a bit, building a scope and integrating some details into it.

Most of the parts were primed to check for errors and sanded again. Hopefully this time there would be no sand marks or glue marks left.

I managed to finished this NG Astray kit after working with it on and off for almost a year. Still, I didn’t do much to it. The major modification for this build was the reshaping of the knee armors which I got the idea from Kieta’s Astray build. Besides that I only did some usual detailing like addition of panel lines, some rivet holes and pla plates for aesthetic purposes. I also extended the thighs a bit, according to my preference. Blue Frame's Tactical Arms was also added since I have scraps of it.

Got this kit for a very cheap price, but it comes with so many assembly problems. Most of the parts were already sealed but misaligned. Lots of putty works and restoration to do. You really get what you paid for. LOL

Plastic sheets will be very useful in this build to cover seams/flaws. I also did some details and pre-paint mods on the torso.

I also did some reshaping of the knee armors. I want it to be a bit more angular.

RX-78 G3 Gundam Done

Here's my interpretation of the RX-78 G3 Gundam. This project was a fun and mental build, basically a kit-bash using some of my scraps. I used parts from HGUC Rx78, MK2 and GM quel. I made the shoulder armors a bit bulkier using pla-plates and reshaping them, also fixed some broken parts on the torso and vents. Pla-strips was also added for additional raised details. In the end, it was a pretty good build and I'm quite happy with the results. Burn out was gone and ready to build again. ;)

Kindda burn out of modeling. So I decided to do a simple and fun build out of scraps that I have. I'll be making my own version of the G3 Gundam using scraps from my HGUC RX-78, RX-178 MK2 and GM Quel.

Preparing some parts for some pre-painting modifications. Just Simple cuts and trim here and there.

I also want the shoulder armor to be a bit bulkier to fit the proportion of the MK2 and Quel parts. Did this using pla-plates and slowly building up the layers.

Like the filter, I also used two colors for the drybrushing. First is light yellow then followed by dark gray on selected areas. Still have to tone it down a bit. I also did some paint chippings and rust. One more layer of light dusting on the lower hull and wheels and its done.

Here's a small update. Decals were applied and sealed with a semi-gloss coat. After curing I applied a dark brown wash to raise some details of the kit. I also hand-painted some of the details using Tamiya enamels.

After fixing and replacing the worn out bushing of my old and trusty compressor... painting time!

The kit was primed with Mr. Surfacer 1000, then highlighted the edges, rivets etc. with dark gray.

Applied the base color which produced a subtle shade.

After drying and curing, I applied two lighter shades of the base coat as highlight and to show gradation.

This project was inspired by NGT's HGUC Zaku build. I reshaped the torso area to make it a bit bulkier. Also did some armor cuts and separation on the skirts. I also extended the thighs by 2.5mm and did some articulation mods on it. The usual panel lines and small pla-strips were added for detailing purposes. The heavy Panzerspähwagen was a large and ungainly but very fast addition to the German mobile arsenal of the early war years. The original 6-rad (6 wheeled) versions were based on a 6x4 truck with armoured body, but by 1937 they were being replaced by the 8-rad versions. During the replacement, the Sd.Kfz numbers were carried directly over; differentiation is made by the addition of 6-Rad or 8-Rad (Ger: "6 wheel" or "8 wheel") in the vehicle name.

These vehicles first saw combat with the campaign against Poland and in the Battle of France. The radio communication cars proved their ability in infantry support, especially during street fighting. Later they saw use in both the USSR and North Africa. Extreme climatic conditions in both these areas proved too severe for the vehicle. In the USSR, adverse ground conditions immobilized 150 Sd.Kfz 232s during the first wet season of the campaign. In the desert, heat and sand created some maintenance problems. Still, the eight-wheeled cars turned out to be the best vehicles that Rommel had for long range reconnaissance across the wide desert territory.

Tamiya first released the Schwerer Panzerspähwagen 8-Rad Sd.Kfz.232 (kit #35036) back in 1974 and was quite a detailed kit for its day with separate suspension components and nicely done hull/turret details.

Painted the kit with traditional Char colors. Also decided to paint the joints and some weapon parts in metallics instead of gray.

Hand-brushed the details of cables, hands, soles, skirt and backpack.

I also added a few pla-strips on some parts, just to give it a little design and texture.

Using a 3mm pla-rod, I drilled a 2.5mm hole at the middle to serve as the mono eye's encasement.

Did some articulation mods at the thighs. Cut it in half, placed 1.5mm plates on each half and inserted a PC and rod to provide rotation. I also trimmed the upper portion of it for more mobility when attached to the crotch area.

Detailed the skirts a bit by cutting and trimming. Also added a few panels at the back.

The stock backpack was kindda plain so I did some pla-plating. I also used O-bolts for additional details. After market thrusters will be added.

Back to Gundams again after trying and experimenting on Armor kits. This is for the Mechapinoy In-house compe. Its a 1/144 scale Zaku II kit and I'm just gonna do some small modifications which will be hardly noticeable once painted. Maybe add some panel lines and little bits of details here and there just to improve the aesthetic look of it. But basically Im still going for the OOTB look.

Reshaped and bulked up the torso using pla-plates and epoxy putty. I find the stock torso to be a little bit out of proportion (small for the head). I also placed some plates at the sides just to give it some depth or detail.

Modified the crotch area too... extended it forward to complement the torso.

Finished my first armor kit! It's a Tamiya 1/35 Russian T62-A Tank. The build was purely for an informal group build at Mechapinoy, but its also a good break or mental build away from Gundams. I really enjoy this build because its different from what I usually do... from the assembly to painting. I've learned a lot of new techniques, used some new tools which is pretty exciting for me. Surely this wont be my last armor kit.

Tamiya T-62A WIP Update: Weathering

Applied rust effects using Tamiya Weathering Master...

followed by Sand...

and lastly Light Sand.

After building up all the layers I noticed that I overdo it. I can say its quite hard to control all the weathering specially when you're enjoying doing it, not to mention its my first armor kit. Gonna erase some of the Sand because most of the little details like paint chippings and dry brush effects were completely covered.
